Great photos of Carnival Coronation

February 27, 2006

Most of the carnivals in the interior of Panama have two queens for carnival. One is for Calle Arriba and one is for Calle Abajo. Basically upper streeet and lower street. These are not necessarily real streets, but help with the competitive spirit. It is basically similar to Rio’s Samba schools.

Well the coronation of the two carnival queens of Las Tablas was Saturday in the morning (very very early). This is always a big deal. After all it is the most famous carnival in Panama.

Dealante was there and has great photos capturing the spirit of the Las Tablas carnival.

I wish you would show some photos of the spots in Las Tablas where the parade goes through. Does it go by the cathedral? Are there reviewing stands? I want to see the crowd and the town as well as the babes.

Hi Doro,
For more of the Carnaval I can recommend Dealante's Carneval pages.

About reviewing stands? I didn't see any except a tiny one for dignitaries. It's a much more democratic carnival than Rio.
