New Panamanian VOIP service launched

March 17, 2006

ClaroLITE is a new service from ClaroCOM where you make phone calls computer to Panama and the rest of the world. It works in many ways like Skype but the company is based in Panama and has a focus on Panama.

This means that you can get a local Panamanian number which goes to your PC no matter where you are in the world. You can also make very cheap local calls in Panama (2c a minute to land lines).

For people in Panama Skype or Vonage may still be better as they may have better rates for outside of Panama. But for people living abroad, who need to make and receive calls to Panama this could be a fantastic service. The only real problem I can see is that it is currently windows only. I will see if I can make it work with a Macintosh VOIP program and post the results here.
