Finally great Indian food in Panama
July 25, 2006Every now and again we get this insatiable craving for Indian food. A year or two back the only real option would be to go to Colon or make your own. Now thank god we have Masala. We read the Eric’s review and it sounded fantastic.
The place is located in an old Villa in Bella Vista close to Viejo Pipo and Boleros on a side road off Avenida Balboa.
We started out with these amazing Samosas. I love Samosas, but most places they don’t make them fresh and they have minimal filling. This was accompanied by a selection of four sauces. All were good but the mint sauce was outstanding.
Then arrived the Tandori wings. I love Tandori and I love wings, but I have never tried Tandori wings before. I have no idea if this is traditional, but it tasted fantastic. The chicken was so well cooked that it was falling of it’s bone. The marinade was also incredible. Truly addictive eating.
Then came the curries. We had the korma (pictured) and the regular Chicken Curry. Both were excellent. The Korma was not exactly what I would normally get in a curry house in England, but it was excellent. The Chicken Curry we ordered extra picante (extra hot) but it was at most medium. That was the only real negative.
With the main course we ordered this filled roti. Roti’s are basically flat breads. This particular dish was filled with ground beef and peas. It was tasty but probably not quite at the same level as the other dishes.
Seating is available Indian style or at regular tables. The service was very attentive and the beer was cold. There really is nothing negative to say about it. The prices were decent. Our main courses were about $9 a piece. Lamb dishes were around $14 due to the scarcety of lamb in Panama.
